How does one squeeze it all in? Here are the things I feel I should do on an almost daily basis, roughly in the following order:

  • take vitamins
  • drink lots of water
  • exercise
  • eat well on a regular schedule
  • keep my home and office tidy
  • put in a full day at the office
  • come up with brilliant ideas for my clients
  • put out fires at work
  • do office admin stuff like bookkeeping
  • work on business development
  • volunteer
  • cook at least one warm meal
  • spend quality time with my partner
  • feed the cats
  • go out with friends
  • stay up-to-date on current events
  • read a good book
  • work on an art project
  • meditate
  • relax
  • get plenty of restful sleep
Over the years, I've found that the time I've listed for art and relaxation at the very end of the day gets short changed. I personally need a lot of quiet time to myself. I am someone who gets her energy from working on personal creative projects in solitude. I don't get energized by people. I have only recently learned that in order to be at my most happy, productive and effective, I need to start my day with downtime, rather than try to squeeze it into the end of my evening. I've set up an "art corner" in my office and spend 30 minutes in the morning working on an art project, or reading a book. Sometimes I get so absorbed that I spend up to two hours on the art project. This is time well spent, because I feel no resentment for the rest of my day about giving my time to my business, family and friends.
