Last year, I decided to change my business from a sole proprietorship and graphic/web design firm, Echelon Design, to a corporation, StepUp Communications Inc. which focuses primarily on employee communications but still offers graphic design services as part of its expertise.
Why am I taking my business in this direction?
The main reason is that I feel passionate about my work, and I want to contribute to other people feeling the same way about theirs. If I can help improve communication between an employer and its employees, the result can only be a gain on both sides. And I like the old win-win, even though I dislike the term. I am idealistic about achieving work-life balance in my own life, and would like to see that possibility for anyone. This does not mean that employers and employees can't demand a lot from each other.
In fact, high expectations are a great place to start.
